We photographed Sadiaka and Yusha’s wedding several years back, then their one year anniversary portraits. Later we photographed Aiden’s newborn photos, just barely over a year later I photographed Aavya’s newborn photos as well. This is what we mean when we say we’re your family photographers. We love to see your families grow. We so very much enjoy the changes we see as we arrive each year for your yearly family photo update. And since Aavi is now a year old and they’ve all moved to a new home, there have been quite a few changes this year!
The first thing we noticed about their new house was Sadia’s “photo wall” in the entry way of their brand new home. No exaggeration, no embellishing, nothing but the truth here… my eyes teared up a bit. We’ve always known how much Sadia and Jay value the work we’ve created with them over the years. But seeing this is something so much more meaningful than hearing the words. Enjoying these photos every day as the leave their home in the morning, arrive back in the evening… this is why we are photographers. This is why we value photography for ourselves as well. To truly enjoy life’s little moments is a gift we give you, but seeing you do that? That’s a gift you give us.
The new house has a bit more space than the old place and they’re still working on filling some furniture in. In the meantime, Aiden and Aavi have a whole room to ride around with their bikes and cars!
The Yearly Family Photo Update
When we photograph the same family frequently, we build a beautiful relationship. It’s so lovely to see what sets each child apart, where their character comes from over the years. The number one thing we avoid is creating the same image each year, because you’re not the same family each year! Since they’ve moved to a new area, Sadia suggested the local waterfront park as a way to celebrate their new location. Unfortunately, the actual beach was closed for cleaning so we made the photo time into a walkabout instead– all part of the story!
So here’s the thing about photographing a family with two toddlers. It’s basically impossible to create the perfect formal portrait. We say, embrace it! As we already know, life with a toddler has curve balls and a lot of crazy moments. We love to capture that in photos because it tells so much more than a posed line of half-smiling family members. Aiden is all about running these days. What 2-year-old isn’t, right? Since Aavya isn’t quite walking yet, it was easier to keep her in one spot. And since she’s abundantly generous with eye-twinkling smiles it was easy to capture a few of those, too.
We love the little expressions. We adore the joking shyness, the tired eye-rubbing, the waving to us. It’s all a part of your current story.
