Well, there’s a bit of a mouthful, right? Updating your family history photos – how much weight does that carry right there? We know. It’s hefty! When Brigid first contacted us about these photos it took quite a bit of planning to make it happen, but that’s all a part of the story.

A bit over a year ago, Brigid delivered their triplets, doubling their family size of three to a family of six. And the following year was quite crazy for them at times, as one might imagine with triplet newborns! But that’s not the real reason Jim and Brigid hired us. The real reason is their ten year anniversary was coming up quickly!

In a way, we have them to thank for some of our previous wedding couples. Brigid and Jim were not so happy with their own wedding photos and have told all their friends and family ever since then to invest in their wedding photos instead of hoping for the best. While they’ve lived with them for the past decade, they’ve never forgotten they don’t have great photos of them as a couple. Not even wedding photos. So with their anniversary looming, they decided to invest in beautiful couple photos.

With their permission, we decided to do a combo shoot of family photos and couple photos. Their babysitters and Jim’s parents came along to help out with the little ones and give them time to focus on the couple portraits at the end. What a gift!

Sometimes the story isn’t in what we show, but what we don’t show. One year old triplets and an older toddler make a lot of eyes to keep trained at once, and in the end – a perfect Christmas card family photo might not be in the cards. Or will it?

But of course, that perfect attentiveness can’t last. It’s a miracle we got it in the first place! Brigid came to us for our moment photos and that’s exactly where our favorites in this session lie.

We wandered on down to the beach after the kids left to focus more on our couple. I love some of the quiet moments we found between them. And we probably would have kept searching for them had we not been completely rained out – we all just barely made it into our cars before a most epic downfall began. I might have giggled at our narrow 30-second escape in the end. But the vividly sunny day turning into a storm with little warning – that, too, is just another part of the story.

Ten years into their marriage, Brigid and Jim now have natural, personality-filled photos of both them as a couple and of their growing family. Updating your family history photos can be fun, an exploration. And we’re so glad to deliver that!
