It’s about this time of year we start getting frantic phone calls wondering whether it’s too late for family portraits. The answer is both yes and no – no, it’s never too late for family portraits in Portland (or anywhere beyond)! But yes, if you want to have family portraits made and printed in a custom wall gallery and get holiday cards out all before the end of November, it’s a bit late. That said, we truly believe the best time for new family portraits is now!
There are a hundred different reasons I’ve heard people use to delay new portraits. My kid just bruised their eye. I’ve got 10 lbs to go still. I can’t take time off on a weekday. I already planned our Christmas card this year. My kid is in a cranky phase. I don’t know what to wear. I just can’t find the time. My skin is hormonal and looks like crap (yeah, I’ve used this one myself a few times!). We’ve got another baby on the way so the family isn’t complete yet.
You know what? I could come up with a few reasons why Heather and Steve might have wanted to wait on their own family photos this year – but isn’t it so great that they didn’t? I captured their family exactly as it is right now. Their little guy smiles sometimes and not other times. He didn’t want to play hide and seek in the woods like Heather was hoping – but this is their family today. And in future years when they look back at these photos, they’ll remember these little moments that slip by so quickly.

These woods are just down the road from their house. If we weren’t fighting sunset, we would have walked on over there.
Who doesn’t want an image just like this of their family? Who doesn’t want this trigger to remember the infectious giggle during the tickle fest?
The best time for new family portraits is today. Don’t wait, because you’ll just keep on waiting forever. Make it happen now so you’ll have these moments with your own family!
