This is the story of a boy from New York and a girl from Southern California (sound familiar?) who met in Oregon at law school (okay, not so familiar at all) and fell in love. And then they planned the most lovely of summer Columbia Gorge wedding celebrations and asked us to photograph it. Of course, there’s a lot more to the story but that’s about where it starts. You might remember Kirsten and John from their gorgeous glowy-light filled autumn engagement session. And if you don’t – go check it out because we still love the photos a year later!
Great, you’re back? Okay, you’re ready to move on to the next chapter with John and Kirsten’s Skamania Lodge wedding photos!
Planning a wedding in the Columbia Gorge usually means preparing for the possibility of high winds. Not so much at their wedding though! I’ve made no effort in hiding one of the main reasons I left New York is because I just couldn’t tolerate the humidity and heat of the NY summers. John’s family seemed to bring that with them the week of his wedding, yet Kirsten looked perfect the entire day! Check out John’s reaction to seeing her for the first time:
After a quick bridal portrait session in the woods following their first look, we met up with the rest of their bridal party in Skamania Lodge’s lobby. One of the benefits of this Columbia Gorge wedding venue is the variety – we have portraits in the woods for the couple and out in a field for the groups. It brings the best of the varied landscape into their photos and has a benefit like guests staying on property! And also, really weird paintings to make slightly awkward portraits.
Columbia Gorge Wedding Ceremony
They chose a ceremony location overlooking the Columbia River for there Skamania Lodge wedding.
I’d say Kirsten and John were pretty pleased with the ceremony! Love this photo Joe created on their way up the aisle.
Skamania Lodge Wedding Reception
Ponderosa & Thyme and Luxe Events outdid themselves at the most lovely of wedding receptions. Located down the hill in a little alcove in the woods it brought out the best of Columbia Gorge wedding backdrops. Kirsten’s gold accented wedding details sparkled under the market bulbs later in the evening.
It felt very midsummer’s eve as the evening went on.
They both had adorable dances with their parents – we love seeing this!
After their engagement photos, Kirsten and John recognized the great variety of photos we can create for our couples in even a little bit of time. So when we suggested a few minutes of night portraits just before we left for the night, they were game for some fun. And… blue sky.
