When I first spoke to Kim about their family portraits, she was trying to schedule it during spring break while her son was home from college. It didn’t leave us a lot of options for rain dates, so we just hoped for the best and settled on an afternoon. We met at their home – always a great way to personalize your portrait session in Portland! They live on a hill and have a beautifully landscaped side yard with trailing rocks up the hill, so we made use of that area first.
People often ask us, when is the best time to have family portraits done? Next year Kim’s daughter is also heading off to college and they’ll be empty nesters! That’s usually a great time to get some updated family photos on the wall. You’ll be feeling a bit nostalgic and seeing your kids’ happy faces is a nice antidote as you adjust.
We made sure to create a few images without the kids, too, so they have personal art for their walls now that their children are growing up and out of their home.
