Rose and Gordon are a couple who lives in Kansas and has traveled the world yet chose to come back to Portland for their nautical themed wedding aboard the Willamette Star, one of the many river cruise ships that sail through the downtown river. Before their voyage to marriage, Rose and Gordon did their pre-boarding preparations at the Benson Hotel, which if you haven’t been there, is a great place to stay in the heart of the city, just about walkable to anywhere. The hotel also boasts a huge lobby with a beautiful fireplace and a great bar too (perfect for those wedding after-parties)!
The couple got ready in separate rooms, but wanted that “first look” moment to see each other for the first time on their wedding day! The grand staircase in the lobby made that perfect location for their first look at each other but also for their family photos, since most of the family was staying their too!
While we didn’t embark on a three hour tour from a tropic port, we did however sail from the Southeast riverfront area which faces beautiful downtown Portland, making it a great backdrop as guests boarded the ship.
What a perfect sunset wedding ceremony! I just loved the moment Rose and Gordon had their first kiss – classic and timeless!
Did I mention this was a nautical themed wedding on the Willamette Star? Yep, Rose had her bridesmaids wear their anchor scarves on the aft deck! While the reactions and moment is great, the remaining sunset light piercing the trees as we sailed down to Lake Oswego was just remarkable (and the weather was mighty fine too).
The Ross Island Bridge was dead ahead
This had to be one of my favorite images from the evening. When Rose and Gordon left their guests at the end of the reception, they were great by all the guests lined up along the dock. The image here is the quiet moment as they left. Perfect twilight sky with the city lights in the background made a fitting final image of the entire day.
