There are about a thousand different parenting styles. This method, that method. They talk about everything and nothing all at the same time. But there are really only two kinds of parents as best I can tell. One parent revels in whatever stage their child currently occupies. The other parent can’t wait for the next stage. I’m not sure which kind of parents Lillian and Johan are, but I’m definitely the one that just-can’t-wait for next stage. Especially after seeing these two boys with their neighborhood adventuring on scooter and skateboard! I can’t wait to see our own son careening down the hill on his mode of the day.
We took a mix of lightly posed family groupings and then let the boys have at it. They were so excited to get moving, little bundles of energy that they are. Oh to have the energy of a child when you’re an adult! Akira is a bit of a speed demon and loved racing by us. Caiden, a bit more cautious, trailed behind at first.
When Lillian and I first spoke on the phone to arrange their Portland portraits we spoke a bit about the boys’ favorite pastimes. “Probably not playing video games for the photos, right?” she asked. I’m glad we moved away from that idea quickly because I love the story I see in these photos! Akira racing toward the camera, Johan excited to see how in control he was and Caiden looking on perhaps with a bit of longing for the day he carries the same ease. Even more special, Lillian’s parents were in from overseas and got to see the whole thing, too!
