Meet me in Montauk. No, really! When we first started talking with Casey about her wedding, she was talking about a Manhattan winter wedding. They quickly changed plans to a Montauk destination wedding in the shoulder season before Memorial Day. You see, Casey grew up going to the beach in Montauk and has nothing but fond memories of the place that’s a bit lost in time. And when the 10 day forecast, the 5 day forecast and tomorrow’s forecast all proclaimed monsoon-like weather with possible tornadoes… Casey and Mike took it in stride. They knew what they were getting into with a Montauk wedding!
Their Montauk destination wedding photos tell a very different story than that of a monsoon. In fact, it was nothing like that at all. By the time their noon ceremony at the local Catholic parish arrived, it was bright and sunny. Sometimes keeping the faith has huge rewards!
Casey bought all the ladies a gift of very wearable matching jammies in a stunning blue to match her ring. With the sudden sun on the wedding day, all the ladies crammed into the condo were quite warm!
There’s nothing quite like seeing yourself put together on your wedding day for the first time. Casey had been running wild around the condo helping others ready themselves for the early ceremony and finally took a few moments to herself downstairs, alone. And in the A/C!
As always, we love photographing multiple weddings within a family. Casey’s sister, Katelynn, hired Joe to photograph her own wedding five years ago. Now that Katelynn and Michael have their own family, it was so fun seeing everyone all together again!
Meanwhile, Joe was over with the guys at a house rental near their reception. Casey sent over a gift for her soon-to-be-husband:
And then they moved onto church. This is not a portrait, by the way, but a very candid shot of Mike making his way into the ceremony. It’s also one of my favorite photos from the entire wedding! Of course, Mike’s reaction at seeing Cassandra for the first time is a close second.
They had a truly lovely Catholic wedding ceremony in Montauk. There was so much humor within the ceremony itself! Fun little stories about them are not often something we see at church weddings, but their chosen priest was a brilliant storyteller. And then there was the incident of blessing the rings with a bit too much water…
One of our best pieces of advice for any couple planning a wedding is to remember who you are. Remember why you’re marrying. And as much as you’ll hear helpful advice from friends and family, keep true to what you know you want. For Casey and Mike, they wanted to relax. They didn’t want their wedding day to be go, go, go.
And so they didn’t. With a long break between church and reception, they went and hung out at some of Montauk’s famous dive bars. They love the kitschy atmosphere of the old beach town and wanted to actually experience that as part of their wedding – and they DID! After a break, they met up with us for a few portraits and we could absolutely see how relaxed they were and how much fun they had bar hopping in the afternoon as part of their Montauk destination wedding photos.
From there we moved on to their reception. 360 East at Montauk Downs is one of the few Montauk wedding venues that has a sunset view since it’s at the top of a hill and overlooks both water and the sunset facing golf course.
Gorgeous flowers brought to you by Amagansett Flowers by Beth. They were stunning!
Casey changed into a beautiful Tadashi gown for parts of the reception so she could move and dance! And then went right back to her Pronovias ballgown for her dance with her father.
Mike’s niece and nephew were a riot. I mean, complete show-stoppers. They put the adults to shame on Gangnam Style.
And if you haven’t yet seen Casey and Mike’s winter engagement session, check it out on the blog!
