Kirsten and I have been talking for several months now, but we finally met her and John at their engagement session. When we first spoke about everything, they were both frantically studying for the bar and job hunting, so it was easy to push thoughts of the engagement session off until later. Other than fall color, they weren’t sure what they wanted. She asked me how to make the best engagement photos and I knew my answer would be the same as it always is – trust.
Portland Engagement Photos
Kirsten asked for a few suggestions for a good location for her Portland engagement photos and we settled on a few ideas and scheduled the date. However, as the beginning of October rolled around and we looked out the windows and drove around, we noticed the fall color coming much quicker this year than last. I emailed Kirsten to see about moving their engagement session up a bit after visiting one of our locations and seeing the peak of color in that area wasn’t going to last. After a quick check with both her and John’s work schedules, we moved the date up two weeks.
Peak color never did hit our intended location so with a day to go until their engagement session, Joe and I went for an afternoon drive to find a new spot that showed off the beauty of a Portland engagement session with fall color. We had a lovely scouting trip. The best part? I called Kirsten to let her know I thought we should change locations and give her a new meeting spot. She agreed immediately and said whatever we though best would be fine.
How to Make the Best Engagement Photos
So that’s it. Trust your photographer. Give your vision and trust they’ll help you make it complete. And when the day arrives for your engagement session or even your wedding, give yourself over to the day and enjoy it!
I’ve been wanting to photograph in front of this little shack for over a year. I was thrilled when Kirsten said she thought it was awesome. John joked they’d choose this image for their save the date with an announcement they just bought their first house.
The golden light just shone for them on their beautiful autumn engagement session in Portland.
We love photographing before the wedding with our couples. In addition to the opportunity to make beautiful portraits of you in a more relaxed setting, it’s also a great way for us all to get to know each other better before the wedding day. Thank you to John and Kirsten for this beautiful set of images!
