Joe and I met Mindi well before she found out she was pregnant, but even then she was talking about scheduling some family portraits in the Portland Oregon area. We finally had our opportunity to give Mindi just that when she and Chance had their new addition, Addiley! Due to work and school schedules, we split their session in two and photographed the newborn portrait session and the family portrait session a couple weeks apart.

I’m going to open the photos with Chance and Addiley, though, because it’s one of my favorite daddy-daughter photos I’ve taken in a while. The look of intent on his face says so much. What does he want for his daughter in the future? It’s all written right there.

A bit about why we love family portraits

Joe and I each have had conversations with families and parents in the past, but I’m not sure if I’ve ever written about it on the blog before. We both wish we had more photos as children. As the oldest children, we each have more than our siblings, but still both feel a lack in our childhood family portraits. In particular, we wish we had more photos that actually show our parents as they were at the time we were babies or 2 years old or 5 years old. This is one of the reasons we are so emphatic about including the whole family in portrait sessions. We feel strongly it’s your duty as a parent to give this gift to your child!

I’ll get off my soapbox now and go straight for the adorable chubby cuteness of newborn baby Addiley!

Aren’t peacefully sleeping babies amazing? Mindi received so many gifts for her new daughter, but many of them were too big for Addiley to wear at a week old. Luckily, there were some very cute headbands that didn’t completely overpower her small newborn size and Mindi asked for her to wear this one as a lovely memory.
