We should probably start this post off by letting you know I’m a little obsessed with Lauren’s entire look. I could never pull it off, of course, which is a huge part of it. But beyond that, Lauren looked the epitome of grace on her wedding day. And what’s more, she looked like herself! Much later in the evening as we were walking back to their Boston Intercontinental wedding reception, I complimented Lauren on keeping up with us. We’re habitual fast-walkers and talkers on wedding days! She retorted that it was easy, being in a smaller grace. And Marc took that moment to say something to us that hasn’t left my mind in over two months. It was something like this:
“I told Lauren I didn’t have a lot of opinions on the wedding itself, but when I saw her walking down the aisle to me I wanted to see her – not a big fluffy gown hiding her body and a ton of makeup covering her face. I wanted to see her body. I wanted to see the person I love.”
Pardon me as I tear up just a bit. I didn’t when I first heard it, but as those words tumble around in my brain day after day I love it so much. And I think Lauren did an amazing job honoring Marc’s wishes while at the same time creating a cohesive wedding look that simply wowed.
The Intercontinental Hotel in Boston was the location for the big day. Yes, Lauren and Marc flew us in to photograph their wedding! It wasn’t a destination wedding for them and most of their guests, but it was for us destination wedding photographers! Luckily, the Intercontinental was an amazing place in which to stay for us all. Their staff their provided a large conference room for getting ready and then Lauren got dressed up in a bridal suite with just her mother and sister. This is where it all came together!
Lauren and Marc have a large bridal party! Once all the girls gathered in her bridal suite, she passed around her shoes for well wishes from all the women – including her grandmother – in the room before putting them on for the day.
Meanwhile, Marc and the guys got ready over the river in their Charlestown home. Lauren has a close relationship with her brother and it’s so sweet seeing Marc follow suit while passing out gifts to his groomsmen.
The groomsmen walked from their home to their local parish for the wedding ceremony at Saint Mary-Saint Catherine of Siena Parish. The ladies rode an old-fashioned trolley over from the hotel!
While Joe photographed the beginning of the ceremony, I hung back with Lauren and Larry. It doesn’t always happen, but when it does these moments between child and parent are so lovely to observe!
The pastor had everyone laughing throughout their ceremony – a sure sign of a good wedding!
Lauren and Marc live just across the river from downtown Boston and chose their venue primarily because of familiarity and location. They did request doing all their photos nearby and to feature the skyline as they love it! We ended up with a gray afternoon so the skyline added a much-needed element of texture to their portraits. The lines were awesome! This is one of my favorite things about being destination wedding photographers – we rarely end up in the same place and there’s always something new to see. Inspiration can come from so many places.
My favorite portrait from the whole set:
Lotus Floral Events did an excellent job decorating a very large hotel ballroom wedding reception!
A cute little coincidence: a cloudy day can bring twilight on early and their reception lighting ended up matching the sky outside perfectly!
After quite a few funny toasts, Marc’s tribute to his mother brought out sighs from the audience.
We love our Portland weddings. We really like being home the same night we photograph! But it was so great to be a part of Lauren and Marc’s Boston wedding. And not only because they invited us to join in with the festivities after we finished shooting!
