We met Em and Steve years ago in Las Vegas at a photography seminar that claims attendance each year of somewhere between 10K and 15K. Granted it wasn’t a random meeting, but when you think of the sheer numbers it’s pretty amazing we’ve ended up being great friends. They’ve visited us many times and I finally got to return the favor and visit them recently! They asked if I wouldn’t mind creating some updated couple portraits for them, and I was happy to do so!
The only catch? They live in Florida and the particular day we choose to shoot was just miserable with mosquitos. Em and I are both magnets, me more so than her, and it was kind of awful shooting amongst that. There’s basically nothing that kills the moment for a couple more than ending up eating a mosquito. Yes, one of the laughing portraits below? That was because Em accidentally ate a mosquito. She said it was crunchy. That’s about as unromantic as it gets, no?
Another fun thing I don’t have to deal with very often as a Portland engagement photographer: humidity. In fact, it’s one of the top three reasons we moved away from the East Coast and rarely do New York engagement sessions in the summer. When I first started shooting I had to shoot through fogged up lenses. We chose to shoot anyway since we knew we’d only last through the mosquito attack a short while.
So while these were taken in Palm Beach, Florida and I definitely cannot promise Spanish moss in your Portland engagement photography, I can say we love creating couple portraits anytime. Whether it’s an engagement session, an anniversary session, or just plan fun to celebrate being a couple, we’d love to help you create portraits that celebrate you as a couple.
