I’ve photographed the Wards nearly every year over the last decade and I am thrilled to say that this year’s session was my absolute favorite in every way! When Marlene asked when I’d be in town next for their annual shoot and I let her know we’re doing portraits in a more real and less posed way now, I wasn’t sure how she’d react since she’s been such a long-standing client of Turn Loose the Art over the years. The whole family embraced their modern storytelling portraits with gusto and I love the result.

Marlene let me know that one of their favorite family activities involves hanging out with their iPads and Frappucinos on Sunday morning. Combining that with cuddling together in bed turned out to be the perfect session that tells a whole lot about their family! Like most families, the weekdays are packed full of regular, everyday routine. Sunday mornings are a reprieve for them and the kids love their vanilla bean drinks!

Of course, Jake really wanted me to play his space invader game with him by the end of the session and Riley may have spilled a bit of her drink on the sheets, but all in all it’s one of the more adorable Sunday mornings I’ve spent in quite some time.

And, well, any session on a big comfy bed that doesn’t end in a pillow fight probably means I’m doing fun wrong, right? Pillow fight family photos, we could make this a thing all on its own!
